These were taken less than 48 hours before the Kilauea Volcano erupted. We were standing at the view point at 1 am Tuesday morning when we took this. Along with us at that ungodly hour were 3 dudes from San Francisco and another couple, so there were 9 of us. I felt a trembling while we were there and heard drumming from a distance. Someone said that's like the natives praying to Pele for everyone's safety.

We flew out of the island on Wednesday and learned that the volcano had erupted. On the first hours of the eruption, we heard that area near the house we stayed in was already evacuated. I don't know if the house still stand today, I hope it does.

  6. Eruptions are scary and dangerous. Now there is one in Guatemala that's even worse because of the type of volcano it is, more like Mount St. Helens in Washington that had a devastating ash could in addition to the lava. - Margy
