M is for the California Missions established by the catholic priests, the first 9 of the 21 missions founded by Fr. Junipero Serra. Fr. Serra was beatified by Pope John Paul 11 on 9/25/88 and canonised by Pope Francis 9/23/15.
(1) Mission San Diego de Alcala - founder July 16, 1769 in San Diego, CA
(2) Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo - founded June 3, 1770 in Carmel, CA - the most popular.
(6) Mission San Francisco de Asis - founded June 29, 1776 in San Francisco, CA - better known as Mission Dolores.
I don't want to make this long, so if you want to read about the other missions I visited, click here. I intend to continue my quest to visit all 21 of the missions. Fingers crossed.

They remind me Goan churches..!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful buildings. I've never seen inside one before (well apart from in cowboy films) so that was interesting. I find churches fascinating and their combination of the social, historical and architectural not to mention a pinch of spirituality.
