ABC Wednesday: M

M is for the California Missions established by the catholic priests, the first 9 of the 21 missions founded by Fr. Junipero Serra. Fr. Serra was beatified by Pope John Paul 11 on 9/25/88 and canonised by Pope Francis 9/23/15.

(2) Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo - founded June 3, 1770 in Carmel, CA - the most popular.

(6) Mission San Francisco de Asis - founded June 29, 1776 in San Francisco, CA - better known as Mission Dolores.

I don't want to make this long, so if you want to read about the other missions I visited, click here. I intend to continue my quest to visit all 21 of the missions. Fingers crossed.

  1. During the grade school years of my boys we had to do...and I say WE, models of missions.
It was a forced learning but well worth the information about the missions up and down our state. Been fortunate enough to visit a few of them in person.

  2. that place i would love to visit! It seems so quiet and peaceful!

    Have a nice abc-wednesday-day / - week

  3. These buildings look like south European buildings. They are very beautiful. Great choice for M!

  4. I wish I would have made a roadtrip to see all the California Missions while I lived there...
I've been to San Gabriel, Ventura, Santa Barbara and couple others...
    Great choice for M!

  5. I've actually been to the San Diego mission!

  6. Such impressive monuments!
    Great pics.
    Happy ABCW!

  7. Marvellous Missions, all very beautiful in their own right.
Thanks for sharing them with us,
    Best wishes,
    ABCW team.

  8. Beautiful buildings. I've never seen inside one before (well apart from in cowboy films) so that was interesting. I find churches fascinating and their combination of the social, historical and architectural not to mention a pinch of spirituality.

Would love to hear what you think.
