ABC Wednesday: I

In the small Yucatan island of Isla Mujeres, I spotted a statue of Ixchel - the goddess of midwifery and medicine in Mayan culture.

  5. Beautiful statue of the goddess of midwives. I regularly watch a series on BBC II, which is called " Call the Midwife". It deals with the problems with childbirth in the fifties and sixties in the poor districts of a big city.
    Have a great week.

Thank you for joining the linkup at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2016/03/dominica-caribbean-jewel.html. I never seem to have something posted with the right "letter" for the ABC linkup though! I shall have to plan better.

  7. The Island of Women is certainly a good location for the statue. The serpent hat is a bit of a worry though:-)

  8. A nice honour to midwives, - and the serpent hat a nice variation on the medical
    'snake on a stick' emblem.

  9. If I'm translating correctly she is also the goddess of the moon, of love, and of medicine. Now that's quite a combination. She must've been a very major god.
