On a visit to one of the 21 Missions of California, my husband and I spent fair amount of time visiting the grounds. We saw many olive trees planted by the old Spanish friars. They were full of fruits.
The olives were just falling on the ground, I don't think they were used for anything. So (ssshhh!) my husband picked some and pickled/cured them when we got home. Months later we enjoyed them and remembered our visit to Mission Soledad.

What a way to relive the sight!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Great shots of the olive trees. I don't think I've ever seen one. Carver, ABCW-Team
ReplyDeleteBeautiful olive trees. They grow wild in my garden. Yes, this is Spain :)
ReplyDeleteO is for...
waste not, want not. Think you made the right call
ReplyDeleteI popped back to answer your question. The azalea was already there in 1984 when I moved into my house but it was just a small bush back then. I prune it back from the mailbox a bit (need to do it again soon) as well as some pruning beside the driveway. However, I only prune it places it gets in the way so it gets taller and taller.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics of Olive trees and fruits! Nice post:)
ReplyDeleteLovely post! Your husband was right to pick up the fallen olives and pickle them later. I love olives.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

Wow! Pickled olives!!
ReplyDeleteyou know, i'm from ca and have visited many missions but have never noticed an olive tree! are these in northern ca or southern?
ReplyDeleteI always think its a shame when produce is not used and how nice to have the double pleasure of picking and then remembering. I love walking through olive groves, I think its all the twisted shapes they grow into. I'm not a great olive eater but the pickled variety is definitely the one I'd go for.

Good for you. I'd love to know how to brine olives.
ReplyDeleteHow neat to see the olive trees and get some olives as a souvenir. Your secret is safe with me.
ReplyDeleteI love Black Olives particularly Pasta Putanesca, a sauce made primarily of, black olives, garlic anchovies and tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteGood photo of the tree!
